All of a sudden we saw this pop up on our social media radar and of course had to check out what this is all about. We got in touch with Park City based marketing man for Zoo York Snowboards, Di Nielsen and asked him a few questions.

When did Zoo York decide to start making snowboards and how did this decision come about?
We started this year, so we have been up and going now for about 3 months. Zoo wanted their boards made in the USA, things worked out with a factory there. Zoo has been wanting to get in to the whole snow scene for awhile.

Alright, so at which factory are they made, or is this top-secret?
They are built in the heart of wasatch mountains, Revolution factory, Rad crew of guys all of them are passionate about shredding.

Are there any team riders yet?
We are looking, we brought Pat Milbery on as ambassador/rider to help built up the team, and events.

I see some stuff like boombox tech and gorilla ribs. Can you tell a little more about the boards?
Our focus is on the skaters who snowboard, so the line is built off parks, jibs, street, and jumps, we also added a pow jib board, pow is still super fun to ride. Boombox is designed to amp up your ollie power, and pop. OPP Gorilla ribs were old school skateboard rails. We took the same material and put it in to our side walls.

Got it, yeah I saw this pow skate snowboard, the shape looks quite radical.
Yeah it’s sick, the side cut under you feet to help you getting to your lines and back on packed snow. then the revers sidecut, is going to give you tons of float, super surfy feeling when riding in pow. In-out tech for pow.

In 1993, three OG skateboarders teamed up to found the East Coast’s first true skateboarding-inspired lifestyle brand – Zoo York.  The trio siphoned creative inspiration from NYC’s rapidly evolving skateboarding, hip-hop, and graffiti scenes to produce a variety of culturally relevant products that were dark and gritty like New York City.  What started off as a simple line of decks and T-shirts steadily grew into a full-blown streetwear collection marked by military surplus, urban-athletic styling that was designed to withstand the city’s rugged terrain.

Today, Zoo York is a highly evolved, globally recognized brand with unbreakable East Coast attitude and dialect. The global takeover of the streets has now expanded further.

In the near future, what are some of the plans for Zoo York snowboards?
World domination…. Will be working on new and better technology.
